Answer to Question 1

Many substance abuse agencies and treatment facilities have established employee assistance programs (EAPs) to serve working adults and their employers. Businesses contract with local substance abuse organizations to provide services to their employees. Employers have come to recognize that substance abuse problems will have a negative impact on job performance, and that it is in their best interest and that of their employees to encourage treatment of these problems. The actual scope of the sub-stance abuse services provided by the EAP is specified in a contract negotiated between the business and the provider. The contract generally includes at least an assessment, at little or no out-of-pocket cost for the employee and, if needed, referral to one of the education or treatment options available through the provider's existing programs. Employees can be referred to the EAP by their employers, or in some cases the employees will seek out the EAP services for themselves. As in other substance abuse treatment programs, the strict confidentiality of EAP client information is maintained, regardless of the referral source.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
