Answer to Question 2

Public health measures protect the health of the whole community, usually by understanding the epidemiology of a diseaseits patterns, where and how it emerges and spreadsand attacking it at its weak points. This can lead to prevention by means of public health measures like better sanitation, providing cleaner water and air, or guaranteeing the safety of the food supply. It can also lead to the development and widespread distribution of information and vaccinations. Even simple measures like advising people to wash their hands, not to share eating utensils and dishes, and to cover their mouths when they cough can have an effect on the spread of some diseases. The effects of quarantine have been questionable in some instances and effective in others. As mentioned, public measures like decent sanitation can also affect the spread of disease. In 2010, researchers reported that, worldwide, 7 percent of disease can be traced to unsafe sanitation and drinking water, together with poor hygiene. Two million child deaths per year could be prevented by improving hygiene, sanitation, and water supply. This is mostly a problem of rural areas in poor developing countries
