Answer to Question 1

The lake that exists down valley of the glacier is consistent with a glacially-scoured depression. Close examination shows former end moraines located down valley of the glacier

Answer to Question 2

Ice flows under its own weight with slippage along weak planes within ice crystals and also slippage along the base of the glacier where it rests on rock or regolith, if the glacier is not frozen to its base. This means that the glacier moves both by sliding at the base and flow within the glacier itself. Measured rates of glacier motion are mostly between 2 m and 8 km per year, with the fastest glaciers exhibiting most of their motion by sliding at the base.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
