Examples of large businesses include companies such as John Deere and Ford-New Holland that provide tractors, tillage, planting, and harvest equipment, and seed and genetics companies such as Pioneer Hybrid International, Genetics, and Monsanto.
3 . Food and fiber processors convert raw materials or commodities such as grains and livestock produced on the farm into products that can be sold to consumers. Processing involves steps that may involve multiple businesses or a single business. Commodity processors buy raw material such as grain or livestock and do the initial conversion to food or industrial ingredients. Food or industrial product processors then take ingredients from multiple sources and create a marketable product.
4 . Marketers link the food processor to the consumer. This involves wholesale and retail sales as well as on-time delivery. Today, in contrast to much of the twentieth century, food is distributed nationally and internationally using a sophisticated system.
