Threads can be cut into a hole in metal with a tap, which is a hardened, brittle, fluted tool that cuts
threads into the hole. A tap is turned with a tap wrench. Threads are cut onto a rod or bolt with a die.
Tap and die set tools (screw plate) are used for making threads.
