A patient complains of chronic insomnia and reports being tired of being tired all the time. The patient is reluctant to try pharmacologic remedies and asks the nurse what to do. What will the nurse suggest?

Rules for sleep fitness recommend getting out of bed if unable to fall asleep in 20 minutes and doing something relaxing and then returning to bed when drowsy. Eating a large meal will in-crease insomnia. Drinking alcohol helps some people to fall asleep but causes fragmented sleep. Taking a nap reduces feelings of drowsiness at bedtime.

Induction of labor in patients of high parity (five or more pregnancies) carries a high risk of ute-rine rupture, and oxytocin should be used with great caution. Oxytocin infusions should be in-terrupted for contractions that last longer than 1 minute. Contractions that occur more often than every 2 to 3 minutes are a concern. Mild to moderate pain is normal with contractions. A resting intrauterine pressure greater than 15 to 20 mm Hg is a concern.
