 Wayang kulit are puppets made of water buffalo hide and which are used in all-night performances of highly sophisticated and entertaining shadow plays.

 Yogyakarta (Yogya), also the location of one of Java's two main royal courts and official home of the current sultan, and Surakarta (usually called Solo) where traditional gamelan music and related performing arts (drama/dance) have flourished in their most elaborate and refined forms.
