Answer to Question 1

A base calendar is a calendar that applies to all the activities on a project. It
indicates the days on which work can be performed, and also indicates such days as
weekends and holidays on which work cannot be performed. The base calendar is
developed when the project schedule is initially created.

A resource calendar is a calendar that applies to a specific resource to define the days, or
periods during the day, when that resource is available. Resource calendars are used for
limited resources that may control the scheduling of multiple activities at the same time.
If no resource calendars are created, the scheduling program assumes that resources are
available during all working hours on every working day.

Answer to Question 2

A summary task is a task representing a general activity of construction, and
usually contains multiple subtasks. An example would be constructing a concrete slab,
which contains multiple subtasks such as initial layout, excavation, preparation of the
base, installation of rebars and other utilities, placement, finishing and curing of the
concrete. Summary tasks are used for project scheduling to provide an outline structure
to the schedule that identifies the project's major phases. Typically, no duration is
initially associated with summary tasks.
