Certain types of evidence may be perishable.
The longer an accident scene must be isolated, the more likely it that evidence will be disturbed, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
If the isolated scene contains a critical piece of equipment or a critical component in a larger process, pressure will quickly mount to get it back into operation.
