Answer to Question 1

In its simplest form, commutator segments are split rings that rotate with the rotor of a dc generator and form a mechanical rectifier for the output. Practical commutators have multiple segments and each pair of segments is connected to a separate rotor winding. Slip rings are used on ac generators and made of two solid rings that are connected to the ends of the single armature winding.

Answer to Question 2

A doubly fed alternator uses a tightly controlled ac voltage from an external source to generate the rotating field. The output frequency of the generator is determined by a combination of the rotating speed of the generator and the frequency of ac that is

supplied from the external source. As a result, the generator's output is controlled to be in perfect sync with the grid even if the rotor speed changes.

Over time, chronic hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections can progress to advanced liver disease, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Unlike other forms, more than 80% of hepatitis C infections become chronic and lead to liver disease. When combined with hepatitis B, hepatitis C now accounts for 75% percent of all cases of liver disease around the world. Liver failure caused by hepatitis C is now leading cause of liver transplants in the United States.
