Answer to Question 1

The first part of the sentence is correct, and some of the remainder is. Mountain
glaciers are receding. The Greenland Ice Sheet is melting. The Arctic ice layer is receding
and thinning (but will not affect sea level). The Antarctic Ice Sheet is thickening in some
places, as predicted in global warming models, and many more icebergs are being calved.

Answer to Question 2

Examining Table 6.1, we see that coal (presumably having similar numbers of
carbon atoms in the molecules) have varying heats of combustion. There seems no direct
correlation as suggested.

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
