Glaciers are thinning in high mountain regions, but there is no evidence of thinning on the Antarctic, Arctic, and Greenland Ice Sheets.

Answer to Question 1

The first part of the sentence is correct, and some of the remainder is. Mountain
glaciers are receding. The Greenland Ice Sheet is melting. The Arctic ice layer is receding
and thinning (but will not affect sea level). The Antarctic Ice Sheet is thickening in some
places, as predicted in global warming models, and many more icebergs are being calved.

Answer to Question 2

Examining Table 6.1, we see that coal (presumably having similar numbers of
carbon atoms in the molecules) have varying heats of combustion. There seems no direct
correlation as suggested.
