1. The focus of meditation away from the problem and the stuckness allows the client to observe his or her thoughts and emotions from a safe distance, thus realizing that the thoughts and emotions are not the complete experience of the situation.
2. As a result, the problem doesnt change; ones attitude toward it and the way one copes with it do.

1. An activity that appeals to the client is usedincluding traditional meditation, prayer, progressive muscle relaxation, jobbing, swimming, Lamaze breathing, yoga, tai chi, knitting, crocheting, etc.
2. During the activity, the person repeats a personally meaningful word or phrase.
3. The person is aware of breathing and focused attention.
4. The process teaches the client to control his or her attention, concentrate fully, reject distraction, and perceive clearly.
