Acetic acid has a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell, producing such items as cooking wine and cider.
Lactic acid bacteria is usually found in decomposing plants and milk products, and is used to ferment olives, pickles, sauerkraut, and some meats.

BST, bovine somatotropin, is a growth hormone and is produced by genetically engineered microorganisms.
