Answer to Question 1

When the ingested material reaches the end of the ileum, it is in a liquid form. Water and electrolytes are absorbed by the colon. Without a colon, this will be lost through the ileostomy. Liquids an hour before or after a meal may be helpful. Avoiding excessive liquids, coarse foods as corn, peanuts, etc., may also be helpful. Gas-forming foods should be eaten as tolerated.

Answer to Question 2
