Answer to Question 1

The more probable cause is the long term constant aspirin abuse. This could be compounded by sulindac and desperidine. Also, it was pointed out that she had difficulty swallowing due to a decrease in peristalsis. This indicates a possible delayed emptying of the stomach. All of these together are probably contributing to her gastritis.

Answer to Question 2

As we age, our BMR decreases, particularly if we do not exercise regularly. Aerobic exercise, for at least thirty consecutive minutes three times a week, should cause an increase in BMR.
