If you were counseling SR about her diet and she insisted on remaining a vegan, what recommendations would you give her to improve her nutritional intake? What animal products might she include in her diet that the consumption of which would actually help preserve the animals from which the products are derived?

Is irradiation safe? Explain.

Answer to Question 1

1) A good multiple vitamin/mineral supplement that contained 100 of her RDAs for Fe and B12.
2) A Ca supplement.
3) A prudent use of complementary proteins.

By eating milk, cheese and eggs, SR would not be causing an animal to be destroyed but would be making their usefulness more evident.

Answer to Question 2

As long as food is treated according to specifications, there is no evidence that irradiation is unsafe.
