Answer to Question 1

1
Rationale: Clients abusing alcohol experience a decreased absorption of thiamine and folate and a urinary loss of magnesium. Iron can be affected by chelation with certain antibiotics. Changes in calcium and potassium excretion occur with the use of loop diuretics. Vitamin D status should be monitored in clients taking anticonvulsants such as phenytoin and valproic acid.

Answer to Question 2

B
Unintended effects of drugs are called side effects; they may be adverse or advantageous. Risks are unwanted adverse outcomes that may be associated with drugs. Secondary benefits are ad-vantageous effects of the drug beside its original intended purpose. Complementary is used to describe use of non-traditional therapies alongside conventional treatments; it is not used to de-scribe drug effects.
