Answer to Question 1

4

Rationale: Maternal diabetes places both the mother and infant at risk during pregnancy. Uncontrolled diabetes during pregnancy is associated with increased risk for miscarriages, stillbirth, macorsomia, obstetric complications, and intrauterine developmental and growth abnormalities. Maternal age of 31 is not considered a risk factor. BMI of 21 is within normal limits. American Dietetic Association recommends that females limit caffeine to 300 mg/day because of health risks associated with intake higher than that. High intake of caffeine has been linked to delayed conception, miscarriage, and low birth weight.

Answer to Question 2

A, B, C
Feedback:
Consumers should always read the label to know what they are taking. They should also discuss this with their health-care provider to ensure there are no contraindications with the current therapy. It is recommended that pregnant, lactating women, and children under 6 years not take supplements.
