Dairy products and meats contain carbohydrates because the animal sources they are from consume plants. Carbohydrates are the preferred source of energy, but protein or fats can be used for energy if needed. Some foods do not contain all macronutrients; fruit, for example. Vitamins or minerals may be added during processing of dairy products, but they are not added to raw meat.
