Answer to Question 1

Central adiposity is reflective of visceral adiposity, which is
associated with increased risk of developing weight-related
health problems such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension,
and atherosclerosis. Waist circumference measurements
of greater than 40 inches in men or 35 inches in women
are indicative of central adiposity. Therefore, measuring
waist circumference is a technique to assist in evaluating
someone's risk of developing weight-related health
problems.
