Answer to Question 1

Describe ways to avoid telephone tag.
If possible, gain enough information from your manager to learn of his or her availability.

Consider other options: if the telephone tag continues, try sending an e-mail or fax the information.

Determine if you can locate information for another person or from another source rather than waiting on the person you have been trying to call for the past two or three days.

Answer to Question 2

Describe at least three things you can do when transferring a call.
Explain to the caller that you are going to transfer the call.

Be certain you transfer the caller to the right person.

Before you transfer the caller, invite the caller to call you back if you have not referred him or her to the right person.

Give the caller the name and the telephone number of the person to whom he or she is being transferred, so the caller can place the call again if he or she is disconnected as you transfer the call.

Limit transfers as much as possible.
