Answer to Question 1

No. You cannot use TLC to establish purity of a compound because there could be impurities that have the same Rf values as the compound. Impurities might also be present at different Rf's, but not visualized using standard techniques.

Answer to Question 2

The Opadry coating and sodium naproxen are both soluble in water. If water were used, some of the sodium naproxen would dissolve in the solution along with the Opadry. Separating these would be difficult. Sodium naproxen is not very soluble in ethanol and the Opadry coating is easy to remove using ethanol. Therefore, ethanol is the solvent of choice for removing the coating.

Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
