The advantages include the ability to choose their child and their genetic, physical, and mental characteristics. They can also choose to bypass some of the earlier years of childhood if they desire. The disadvantages are that they do not experience pregnancy and birth, which help focus a couple on the impending parenthood. Other disadvantages may include unique problems such as sharing the knowledge of the adoption with the child.
