Constance is looking forward to running her first marathon. She has been regularly following a training routine recommended to her by an experienced friend. Constance is surprised that the training schedule toward the end of the six-month training calendar does not include a full 26.2-mile marathon distance. In fact, the longest training run is 20 miles. Understanding the Yerkes-Dodson law, what would you tell Constance about the training calendar?
◦ It is set up that way so that only the best trained will go the full distance.
◦ Experiencing a little anxiety or arousal on race day actually helps runners go faster and longer than they did in training runs.
◦ Most first-time marathoners are unable to run the full distance.
◦ Knowing you are able to finish the full 26.2 miles during training results in over-confidence, and thus results in underperformance.
