Some of the benefits of physical exercise are that it strengthens the heart and cardiovascular system; reduces risk of cardiovascular disease; reduces body fat, risk of the metabolic syndrome, and of developing Type 2 diabetes; reduces risk of cancer; boosts the immune system; combats bone mass loss due to aging and osteoporosis; increases life expectancy; buffers stress; reduces anxiety; reduces depression; enhances psychological well-being; improves sleep; improves cognitive performance; and builds self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy.

FITT stands for frequency, intensity, time, and type of physical activity.
