The classic symptoms of herpes simplex virus include painful blisters. These begin as a tingling or burning feeling in the affected area which can grow into an itching and red, swollen appearance of the genitals. Other symptoms include fever, headaches, pain, itching, vaginal or urethral discharge, and general fatigue.
