Answer to Question 1

The deadline technique is a compliance technique that is based on scarcity. This technique involves gaining compliance by indicating to a target person that a desired condition will soon disappear. An example of the deadline technique is when a clothing retailer promotes an End of Summer sale and implies that the discounts on the clothing will not be available once the season ends.

Answer to Question 2

In general, we present ourselves to the world in the way we would like to be seen by others. In the self-verification perspective, we want others to honor and feed back to us our vision of ourselves. Oddly, for many of us, this may mean hearing negative things about ourselves. Jeff has asked for a new roommate because Juan continues to praise him, thus challenging Jeff's self-view, a viewalbeit a negative onethat Jeff is apparently comfortable with.

Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
