An example of the deadline technique is when a clothing retailer promotes an End of Summer sale and implies that the discounts on the clothing will not be available once the season ends.

Oddly, for many of us, this may mean hearing negative things about ourselves. Jeff has asked for a new roommate because Juan continues to praise him, thus challenging Jeff's self-view, a viewalbeit a negative onethat Jeff is apparently comfortable with.
