Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Patients with a deficiency of either protein C or protein S have a thrombotic disorder. These two proteins are important in regulating, by downgrading, thrombin generation and thus clotting. Activated protein C binds free protein S to form a complex that inactivates factors Va and VIIIa.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Factor VIII circulates bound to VWF. Free factor VIII is unstable in plasma, so much so that it cannot even be detected.
