Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
VWF is necessary for normal platelet adhesion to exposed subendothelial collagen. Calcium is a cofactor required for binding of vitamin K-dependent proteins to phospholipids. Fibrinogen is necessary for normal platelet aggregation, whereas factor XIII, in its active form, cross-links the fibrin polymer and thus stabilizes the clot.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
The protein C pathway helps regulate the coagulation mechanism by digesting activated coagulation factors V and VIII. Thrombin is the activated form of prothrombin; it plays a number of roles in promoting coagulation, including the splitting of fibrinogen to form fibrin. Nitric oxide counteracts vasoconstriction.
