Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

Ideas, beliefs, and customs to which people are emotionally attached are called values. Attitudes are positive or negative evaluations, feelings, and tendencies that individuals harbor toward objects or concepts. Attitudes reflect underlying values. But unlike values (which generally concern only important matters), people hold attitudes toward both important and unimportant aspects of life. And whereas values remain quite rigid over time, attitudes are more flexible.
Cultures can have varying responses to cultural change. Some countries feel threatened by the diffusion of traits from certain cultures, particularly if there appears to be a risk of cultural imperialism. One example involves French resistance to the influx of American cultural icons such as Mickey Mouse. In other cases, countries may welcome cultural change or at least see its benefits. U.S. audiences have embraced the diffusion of British-style competitive TV shows, such as the type of show that spawned American Idol.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
