And whereas values remain quite rigid over time, attitudes are more flexible.

Some countries feel threatened by the diffusion of traits from certain cultures, particularly if there appears to be a risk of cultural imperialism. One example involves French resistance to the influx of American cultural icons such as Mickey Mouse. In other cases, countries may welcome cultural change or at least see its benefits.
