A manager must confront a nurse who has been rude to clients. The primary purpose in disciplining a staff member is to:
 
  1. Punish the guilty.
  2. Encourage appropriate behavior.
  3. Protect the institution from liability.
  4. Set an example for other employees.

Question 2

An employee has been late for work three mornings this week. The nurse manager plans to coach the employee. Place the steps to coaching in the correct order.
 
  1. Explore the reason for problem.
  2. Link the problem behavior to client care.
  3. Ask employee for potential solution.

example for other employees. Punishment is only one means of discipline.
