Answer to Question 1

Development - levels of assessment criteria, no middle level, more levels show more growth in student writing; descriptions must be clearly and concisely worded, need to be in kid-friendly language. Use - given to students prior to beginning writing assignment, students use rubric to make sure they are meeting teacher expectations, teacher uses rubric to evaluate and assign grades; grading becomes valid and reliable, more consistent across students and assignments.

Answer to Question 2

Poetic forms serve as scaffolds; help children focus on ideas rather than rhyme schemes. Possible Poems: I Wish Poems, If I Were  Poems, Color poems, Comparison poems, I Am  Poems, Acrostic Poems, Apologies, Invitations, If I Were in Charge of the World, Found Poems, and Poems for Two Voices. Practical application will vary by student.
