Answer to Question 1

PA and left lateral

Rationale: A PA chest is preferred over the AP position. The heart should be closer to the image receptor for the best resolution. The left lateral chest is acquired as it places the heart closer to the image receptor to reduce OID and magnification of structure. Right sided chest pain would not constitute modification of exam protocol.

Answer to Question 2

stochastic effects

Rationale: Stochastic effects can result regardless of dose amount. Consequences of a greater dose show a later effect. Late stochastic effects appear months or years after initial exposure. Cancer is the most common late stochastic effect to contend with, but hereditary effects as well.
