Answer to Question 1

Fire-retardants are classified as either inherent or applied. Inherent fire retardants are mixed into the
product raw materials during the manufacturing process by the producer. Applied fire retardant is a
mixed solution which is sprayed onto surfaces by the retailer, in our case, the interiorscape design
staff. The process is somewhat messy and requires space where the solution can coat all surfaces of
artificial plant materials and fully dry. The liquid is somewhat costly to purchase, but its value is
obvious. Inherently flame retardant products cost more than those which are not treated, but it is
worthwhile to use flame retardant products. They are most often required by fire marshals along with
building owners and interior designers.

It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
