What is likely to happen if you repot a plant into an overly large pot?

How can you tell the difference between humus peat (muck) and sphagnum peat moss? Which is preferable for use in potting media and why?

Answer to Question 1

It may develop root rot because there is too much media that does not contain roots, and the media is staying wet too long providing a breeding ground for root-rot organisms.

Answer to Question 2

Humus peat is more decomposed than sphagnum. It is black and fluffy and has a powdery feel when dry. Sphagnum moss is lighter brown and fibrous.
