Answer to Question 1

It may develop root rot because there is too much media that does not contain roots, and the media is staying wet too long providing a breeding ground for root-rot organisms.

Answer to Question 2

Humus peat is more decomposed than sphagnum. It is black and fluffy and has a powdery feel when dry. Sphagnum moss is lighter brown and fibrous.
