Yes. Preservatives should be used at every point that fresh flowers
are in water; as soon as they are harvested at the production firm, at the wholesale
house, and in the retail shop.

Use irrigation methods that do not wet the leaves; water early in the day
to allow drying before nightfall; ventilate the greenhouse; use raised-mesh
benches to provide drainage; and use sloped concrete or gravel floors to avoid
standing water.
