Answer to Question 1

A
A white appearance on the tympanic membrane results from pus in the middle ear. A red, bulging tympanic membrane indicates acute purulent otitis media. Perforations of the tympanic membrane result from infection or trauma. Scarring may be a result from chronic ear infections. Nontender, nodular swelling deep in the ear canal suggests osteoma.

Answer to Question 2

C
The Snellen chart is used to assess visual acuity. The ophthalmoscope is used to assess the fundus and is usually used by an advanced nurse practitioner. The otoscope is used to assess the ear. A pen light is used to assess eye movements.
