Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback
A Prolonged exposure to amniotic fluid during the fetal period could result in
breakdown of the skin without the protection of the vernix caseosa.
B Normal peripheral nervous system development is dependent on nutritional
intake of the mother.
C The amnion is the inner membrane that surrounds the fetus. It is not involved in
the oxygen and nutrient exchange.
D The amniotic fluid aids in maintaining fetal temperature.

Answer to Question 2

C, D, E
The nurse should notify the primary care provider immediately, institute continuous fetal monitoring, and anticipate ultrsonography to rule out placenta previa. A sterile vaginal examination should NOT be done. At this point there is no indication that the woman needs oxygen. Contacting a relative is only done after permission is obtained from the woman; otherwise the nurse is in violation of HIPAA.
