Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
Phenelzine is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) that produces irreversible inhibition of monoamine oxidase. It takes about 2 weeks for sufficient synthesis of new enzyme to occur. Thus the start of a new drug must be delayed for 2 weeks after discontinuing phenelzine.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
The most common cause of lithium accumulation in patients adhering to the treatment regimen is sodium depletion and dehydration, which reduces the volume of distribution of lithium and in-creases serum levels.
