Briefly describe the new recreational pastime that is currently (1990s) popular among the Navajo and give examples of specific music that accompanies this pastime. Why is the context of this music objectionable to some Navajos?

Answer to Question 1

 Couples compete in a new pastime called Song and Dance for prizes that are given for their costumes and dancing skill.
 Skip Dance and Two-step songs from the Nd' repertory accompany Song and Dance.
 Some traditionalists have complained about the use of sacred Nd' songs in secular (non-sacred, recreational) contexts.
