Answer to Question 1

c

Answer to Question 2

The safety and effectiveness of herbal remedies have not been rigorously tested by the FDA. An herbal remedy could be less concentrated than the claim states or could be contaminated with toxic substances that are not tested for.
Some herbal remedies can affect how medicines work in the body. For example, certain herbs can increase the anti-blood clotting effects of pain relievers.
People who take herbal remedies often do not inform their healthcare providers. Such individuals could be prescribed a drug or have surgery and experience a side-effect from the herbal remedy. This could catch the healthcare team off guard since they are not informed about the ingestion of the herbal remedies. See Table C14-3 for other drug-herbal remedy interactions.
