Answer to Question 1

Zinc is a relatively nontoxic element. However, it can be toxic if consumed in large enough quantities. Consumption of high levels of zinc can cause a host of symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and exhaustion. The hazards of overconsumption are greatest when consumers dose themselves with supplements. Excess supplemental zinc can cause imbalances of both copper and iron in the body. Chronic consumption of zinc exceeding 15 milligrams per day is not recommended without close medical supervision.
