 Smile, show warmth, and be friendly.
 Attempt to learn and use key words, especially greetings and titles of respect.
 Thank clients for trying to communicate in English.
 Suggest that clients choose their own seat.
 Articulate clearly; speak in a normal volume.
 Paying attention to children appeals to women in most cultures; however, some believe that accepting a compliment about a child is not appropriate, especially in front of the child.
 When interacting with individuals who have limited English proficiency, always keep in mind that limitations in English proficiency do not reflect their level of intellectual functioning.
 Explain to clients that you have some questions to ask and that there is no intention to offend.
 If you are not sure how to interpret a particular behavior, ask for clarification.
