Vitamins can travel freely through the blood, and are removed by the kidneys when the levels get too high. Fat-soluble vitamins enter the blood through the lymph, and usually require transport proteins to allow them to travel freely through the blood. Excess fat-soluble vitamins are stored in adipose tissue, and are largely not excreted.
