ANSWER: Answers will vary but should include the following points: Genetics is the study of the transmission of hereditary characteristics to living organisms. Progress in genetic study is increasing the capability to identify genetic predisposition to abnormalities or to disease before or shortly after conception. New discoveries in biotechnology are providing opportunities for gene therapy. Gene therapy can modify and even eliminate genes that may make a person prone to a particular disease or disability. The Human Genome Project has supplied us with an enormous amount of information regarding human genetics. Epigenetics is pushing our knowledge even further.
