FoodNet is a food surveillance system that helps prevent food-borne illness by using science and addressing farm-to-table hazards and has been improved with the passage of the FSMA. With improvements in how foods are produced, handled, processed, transported, and prepared, the food supply will be safer.

Answer to Question 2

Teachers should include a parent guideline of acceptable food choices for good nutrition and those food choices that are unacceptable, such as high-fat, sugary, and calorie-laden foods that offer little food value. If children do bring lunches or snacks from home, they should have a way to refrigerate them or bring frozen cold packs to keep the food safe. The policy should also include the fact that foods from home should (1) be properly labeled with name, date, and type of food; (2) be refrigerated, if necessary; and (3) not be shared with anyone.
